Research

Research in the Department of Geography is conducted in an agglomerative framework using a “bottom-up” approach. Research themes or directions consist of groups of Faculty members with similar research interests, and are often developed into research networks comprising Faculty within the Department of Geography, Faculty and researchers from other Greek Universities or research organizations, as well as partners from the European Union and/or the rest of the world. Research activities in the Department encompass a wide spectrum of themes, including theoretical and applied human geography and the analysis of socio-economic processes, physical geography and environmental management, sustainable development and urban and regional planning, cartography and geo-information science and technology, as well as geographical education. Although broad in scope, research in the Department is also strong in terms of depth, and this is reflected by the distinctions achieved at the national or international level by our Faculty.
