Undergraduate Studies
Geography in a modern interdisciplinary field of learning and research examines the importance of space in the analysis and understanding of contemporary social and environmental problems, questions and challenges, with methodologies from both the social and positive sciences and makes use of new technologies.

Σημαντική διάκριση έλαβαν ο αναπ. Καθηγητής Στ. Γκιάλης και ο μεταδιδάκτορας ερευνητής Κ. Γουρζής για την εργασία “Inter-regional underemployment and the industrial reserve army: Precarity as a contemporary Greek drama”, την οποία συνέγραψαν μαζί με τον καθηγητή A. Σημαντική τιμητική διάκριση για το έργο LIFE TERRACESCAPE, αποτελεί η βράβευση του ντοκιμαντέρ «Ξερολιθιά» σε σκηνοθεσία Στέλιου Χαραλαμπόπουλου με το Βραβείο Καλύτερου Ντοκιμαντέρ (Odysseus Awards) στο 1ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Επιδαύρου 2022, όπου διακρίθηκε μεταξύ πολλών ταινιών μεγάλου και μικρού μήκους.

Στο πλαίσιο του Ευρωπαϊκού Έργου LIFE 4 Pollinators, δημιουργήθηκε πολυπληθές εκλαϊκευτικό υλικό στα ελληνικά, για την αναγνώριση των εντόμων αυτών, καθώς και των φυτών-εταίρων τους. Στην ίδια σελίδα έχει αναρτηθεί και το πρώτο ελληνόγλωσσο σχετικό video.

Μέσα στη ζεστή ατμόσφαιρα του κατά τα άλλα ξέπνοου καλοκαιριού, πραγματοποιήθηκαν, το Σαββατόβραδο 10 Σεπτεμβρίου, τα εγκαίνια της έκθεσης «Αναβαθμίδες του Αιγαίου: Εικόνες από το Παρελθόν έως το Μέλλον» στην Καΐρειο Βιβλιοθήκη της Χώρας Άνδρου.

Upon obtaining the degree of the Department of Geography, the graduate is expected to:
1. To acquire a geographical way of thinking, in order to recognize, describe, analyze and interpret contemporary environmental and socio-economic phenomena at the local, regional, national and global level. Also, to emphasize the spatial dimension of anthropogenic/social phenomena and to analyze the active role that space plays in their creation and reproduction.
2. To be able to utilize the above knowledge and skills in the analysis, evaluation, documentation, organization and synthesis of population, demographic, social, cultural, economic and political phenomena.
3. Να αναλύει και να ερμηνεύει την αμοιβαία αλληλεπίδραση του χώρου με τις ανθρώπινες δραστηριότητες, τις κοινωνικές σχέσεις και πρακτικές και των μεταβολών τους συγχρονικά και διαχρονικά.
4. To perceive, evaluate, analyze and interpret the basic principles of the natural environment, and in particular the elements and processes of the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, biosphere and their physical and ecological interactions.
5. To distinguish, analyze and capture environmental pressures and disasters.
6. To collect, process and analyze qualitative and quantitative data for the study of natural and social phenomena. To be able to effectively use appropriate software systems for this purpose (such as, for example, Statistical and Geographical Information Systems).
7. To interpret and create maps and other representations of geographic information.
8. To judge and evaluate spatial development theories and to be able to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze the main points and geographical dimensions of contemporary socio-economic activities and phenomena, the balanced and uneven development of space and the geographical aspects of globalization.
9. To know theoretical approaches to spatial and urban planning, their implementation mechanisms and institutions, and to develop knowledge and skills in the use of basic techniques of urban and regional analysis.
10. To prepare, or participate in scientific groups that prepare, environmental, spatial planning, regulatory, urban planning, topographical, spatial, economic and social studies.
11. To staff and participate in research groups on natural and man-made geographical issues.
12. Be able to teach courses related to Geography in Secondary and Post-Secondary Education (indicative: Geography, Geography/Geology, Digital Cartography, Geoinformatics Applications).
13. To possess critical thinking and responsibility when dealing with scientific problems and to have the ability to present them in writing and orally.
14. To acquire the social and individual skills that allow him/her to participate and cooperate constructively in groups.
15. Be digitally literate to effectively use basic IT applications.
Graduates can be employed
- in the preparation of development, spatial planning, urban planning, tourism and cartographic studies
- in the organization and management of geographic information and application of remote sensing methods and Geographic Information Systems and data analysis
- as business consultants in matters of location and relocation of activities, utilization of incentives for regional development and decentralization, market research, evaluation of incentives, tourism development, etc.
- in the production of cartographic, touristic and other geographical information
- in the management of natural resources and the preparation of environmental protection and environmental impact studies
- The professional qualification of the graduates of the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean who are defined as "graduate geographers" is described in sub no. 147 Presidential Decree published in Official Gazette 124/04.06.2002.
- In addition, with Law 3687/2008 (Government Gazette 159/A/2008) the inclusion of Geographers in the teaching branch of Category PE04.05 Natural Science Teachers was guaranteed, making it possible for them to participate in the ASEP competition and to be hired as permanent teachers staff in Secondary Education, as well as their inclusion in the tables of substitutes and hourly wages in the sector PE04.05 (teachers of Natural Sciences and especially Geologists).
- Επιπρόσθετα, οι πτυχιούχοι του Τμήματος Γεωγραφίας, μπορούν να συμμετέχουν σε Προκηρύξεις του ΑΣΕΠ για την πλήρωση θέσεων ΠΕ Διοικητικού-Οικονομικού με σειρά προτεραιότητας επειδή ο τίτλος σπουδών που κατέχουν στηρίζεται σε σπουδές που καλύπτουν με πλήρη επάρκεια το γνωστικό αντικείμενο των ρητώς αναφερόμενων από σχετικές προκηρύξεις πτυχίων (ενδεικτικά «Οικονομικής και Περιφερειακής Ανάπτυξης (κωδικός τίτλου 101)», και αποτελεί ισότιμο τίτλο σχολής της ημεδαπής, αντίστοιχης ειδικότητας.

Απόφοιτος του τμήματος Γεωγραφίας του Πανεπιστημίου Αιγαίου (Έτος εισαγωγής 2002). Από το 2011 εργάζεται στο τμήμα παρατήρησης της Γης της ESA (ESRIN/ESA) αρχικά ως μετεκπαιδευόμενος στις δομές δεδομένων και έπειτα στο γραφείο επεξεργασίας δορυφορικών εικόνων και οπτικοποίησης δεδομένων.
