Upon successful completion of this subject, students :

• Wille have familiarization with the basic concepts and definitions of Urban Analysis.
• Understanding Urban Analysis specific objectives, theories and practices.
• Analyze several cities with quantitative, qualitative and urban descriptive methods.
• Cultivation of the ability to interpret the contemporary structure of different scales of cities in different spaces and times and how cities have changed
• Critical approach of urban (social, ecological, cultural and economic) phenomena
• Identify a variety of approaches of urban analysis
• Be able to integrate knowledge with critical thinking skills
• Be able to use various geo-spatial tools in urban analysis
• Be able to learn the composition of a trans-disciplinary project of urban space
• Cultivation of team work ability and collaboration spirit
• Wille have improved their capacity to translate this knowledge into applied analysis
• Wille have gathered and created new information about urban conditions and
• Wille have improved their communication skills in public presentation about their own research project and findings.

This module introduces students to some of the most known key themes, concepts and debates characterising Urban Analysis in several schools of Geography and in critical transdisciplinary approaches. Among the topics covered initially are: human geography debates and theories of urbanization; urban analysis with quantitative, qualitative and urban descriptive methods; interactions between urban phenomena and environment, spatial planning and politics in several cities and particularly in the cities of Athens and Salonica.

Spatial exclusion: social, economic, environmental and cultural issues. Gender issues and anti-colonial approaches in Urban Geography.

Various geo-spatial tools such as Quantitative Analysis software Geographical Informational Systems, Remote Sensing and Urban Modeling are been utilized and combined with Qualitative Methods, to understand urban spatial processes.
