This module introduces students to some of the most known key themes, concepts and debates characterising Urban Analysis in several schools of Geography and in critical transdisciplinary approaches. Among the topics covered initially are: human geography debates and theories of urbanization; urban analysis with quantitative, qualitative and urban descriptive methods; interactions between urban phenomena and environment, spatial planning and politics in several cities and particularly in the cities of Athens and Salonica.
Spatial exclusion: social, economic, environmental and cultural issues. Gender issues and anti-colonial approaches in Urban Geography.
Various geo-spatial tools such as Quantitative Analysis software Geographical Informational Systems, Remote Sensing and Urban Modeling are been utilized and combined with Qualitative Methods, to understand urban spatial processes.
