  • Ability to apply analytical techniques and use the pertinent software for the analysis of applied research problem (skills)

  • Learn traditional and contemporary rules of research deontology
  • Ability to conduct interdisciplinary research, in cooperation with other scientists (team work), for the analysis of contemporary socio-environmental problems

(3) Syllabus

Comprehensive general introduction to the Applied Research Design; emphasis on geographical applications characterized by interdisciplinarity in the analysis of spatial problems.Main thematic units of the course: (a) importance and role of research in the Natural and the Social Sciences in general and in Geography in particular, alternative research approaches, basic principles of applied research methodology, (b) The main stages of applied research, (c) Problem definition, review of information sources, research questions, formulating the theoretical and analytical framework of research, (d) Selected research strategies, (e) Data collection techniques, (f) Representative data analysis techniques, (ζ) Completing the analysis, drawing conclusions, formulating proposals and writing the final research report, (η) Research deontology. The course include separate tutoring sessions for (a) teaching the use of SPSS on selected problems and (b) monitoring the progress og the term papers of the students.
